It has been awhile since anything has been posted in this column and so I thought I would show how some of the lessons and tips that have been posted have been put into practice.  Below are some shots of a route I have been working on for some time now and it contains a number of the items that have been posted above.  Since I, like some others in V Scale look at this as a hobby, and since here in Florida there isn't really the room to build a decent sized model railroad, even in N Scale, which is what I use to model in, with out kicking your car out of the garage into the blazing Florida sun and paying to have the garage air conditioned, V Scale has become the next best thing.  In may ways it is even better since you can, if you have a decent laptop, even take your "model railroad" with you wherever you go - try doing that with an O Scale layout - I have started  working on my "ideal route" as well as this one.
 
So, here are the example of what a route can look like if you follow some of the lessons and tips posted here-in:

This route is still a work in progress and it is far from finished, so please don't ask.  But it does show what is possible if one gives the proper forethought to their planning to give as realistic a setting for our trains to run through as possible.  After all, we go to great pains to build accurate locomotives and cars, trying to get every detail just right and then we go and run these masterpieces on a route with default trees and buildings and the illusion, at least for me, is completely smashed to pieces.

Paul, your route looks simply fantastic. Your attention to detail, especially the plant life. If there is one thing I might recommend, is replacing the default crossing signals. You mentioned about default trees being an eye-sore... ;) It's just a bit of constructive criticism. I don't mean it as a insult. But she really is a beautiful route. I hope someday you may decide to release it, or even share it with a few others. It really is a beautiful looking route! :thumbsup:

Actually the route already is available over at Train Sim. It is the Cascade & North Western, but with my revisions to the scenery. Since many payware items have been used it can not be released and the shots are posted just to show what can be done to a route if one will only put their mind to it and experiment some trying to emulate nature.
